Learning to Live

Looking back now, I realize that I was searching for something. I didn't understand what, but the need was clear - if not blindingly bright. A few years ago, I was lounging on my terrace poolside after a midday swim when the feeling came over me. I didn't recognize it at first or for many months in fact. It was a sullen ache, so dull that I wanted to dismiss it.
